Sodium hydroxymethanesulfonate, also known as Sodium formaldehyde bisulfite (bisulphite) is used as a preservative in cosmetic compositions. The sodium hydroxymethane sulfonate is used to improve the color stability of rosin resins and it has properties of both formaldehyde and sodium bisulfite.
